Welcome, Washtenaw County Teachers!
The Wayne County Math Teachers' Circle (WCMTC) began in August 2015 as a project of the University of Michigan Department of Mathematics, with support from the Wayne RESA Math and Science Center and the Detroit Area Council of Teachers of Mathematics (DACTM). For two years we welcomed teachers from any county/ISD, but focused our outreach on Wayne County teachers, holding all of our meetings at Wayne RESA. Starting with our 2017-18 program we are specifically inviting Washtenaw County teachers to join us as well and will be holding our Saturday meetings at Washtenaw Community College (Room 261 in the Crane Liberal Arts Building) for geographic convenience. We are excited to expand our program in this way and hope to grow this professional community of mathematics teachers.
Please have patience while we update our name and logo throughout our site. Our new name will be the Wayne and Washtenaw Counties Math Teachers' Circle, abbreviated WWCMTC.
Sign up here for the 2017-2018 session! We welcome both past and new participants.
Monthly meetings take place the third Tuesday of each month, 4:30-7:30pm (at Wayne RESA--room varies), and the following Saturday, 9am-12pm (at Washtenaw Community College, Room 261 Crane Liberal Arts Building (map). See our full schedule here.
Wayne and Washtenaw Counties Math Teachers' Circle
We are a professional community of learners, bringing together mathematics teachers and mathematicians monthly to engage in mathematical problem solving. All curious minds are welcome!
We can grant SCECHs to participants that attend at least four of eight school year sessions. If you cannot make four sessions, you are still more than welcome to attend those that you're able.
What is a Math Teachers’ Circle?
At its heart, a Math Teachers' Circle (MTC) is a community of like-minded mathematics teachers and mathematicians who meet regularly to exercise their mathematical problem solving skills. Teacher participants explore, question, conjecture, collaborate, and discover mathematical connections in small and large groups. Professional researchers in math and science together with experienced teacher educators will lead the sessions.
Meet engaged math teachers from other schools and districts!
Enjoy new and familiar mathematics!
We promise an intellectually stimulating, friendly and engaging experience where challenging mathematical and pedagogical problems will be explored.
