Geometry of complicated knots and links
Given a one parameter family of 3-dimensional hyperbolic cone manifolds, one can often find bounds on the change in geometry between two manifolds in the family. In this talk I'll describe how this can be applied to a large class of knots and links: those with a sufficient number of crossings in each twist region. We obtain explicit bounds on geometric quantities such as the volume and cusp shape of the link. These bounds are in terms of properties of only a diagram of the link.

Topic: Deformation theory of hyperbolic 3-manifolds
