Don't overlook the obvious
Suggestion 1: Read the book. Really really read it.
Sit down and read it. Carefully. Again. and again. It's
truly an excellent book.
Suggestion 2: Do lots of individual homework. Do
every problem assigned by your instructor on time, and then
do a few more for good measure.
Suggestion 3: Recopy your notes.
Suggestion 4: Start group homework early.

Seek help and find help
Resource: Talk to your professor. We do everything we can, but we're
not perfect. If you tell your professor what's going wrong, (s)he may be
able to improve things.
Resource: Try the Math Lab.
Tutors there can help you with specific problems.
Resource: Like using the web? Type "exponential functions" into any search engine,
and you'll get thousands of hits. One can now obtain quite a lot of
math help online. Caveat Emptor!
