Mathematics 116

Information on Viewing and Printing

Exams and solutions are available in some or all of the following formats:

  1. HTML with math and figures in GIF (Graphics Interchange Format). Not the best quality, but requires no plugins or external viewers.

  2. PDF (Portable Document Format). You need Acrobat Reader (free from Adobe). Many browsers already have the Acrobat Reader plugin installed.

  3. Postscript (PS). This is the recommended format for best quality despite the longer download time. You need Ghostview, available free of charge for most platforms (it also reads PDF). Other software, such as CorelDraw, can read this format too, but the result is usually poorer.

  4. DVI (Device Independent). You need a DVI viewer and a DVI printer driver such as dvips. DVI viewers and dvips usually come bundled in a TeX distribution. TeX is the dominant mathematics typesetting system, which was used to typeset the exams. TeX is available for most platforms freely from CTAN or from commercial vendors. In particular, most Linux distributions include TeX and MiKTeX is free for Windows. Pictures are not included.
