Don't overlook the obvious
Suggestion 1: Read the book. Really really read it.
Sit down and read it. Carefully. Again. and again. It's
truly an excellent book. As you read, work out the example problems
youself.
Suggestion 2: Do lots of individual homework. Do
every problem assigned by your instructor on time, and then
do a few more for good measure.
Suggestion 3: Check the homework assignments page and work any
"in-class suggestions" problems that your section didn't cover in
class.
Suggestion 4: Recopy your notes.
Suggestion 5: Start group homework early. Make sure that you
can do every problem by yourself.
