Explorations in Mathematics - Course Calendar

Class meetings:

Meetings are scheduled for 5pm–6pm Wednesday afternoons, in East Hall, room B743. For most of the semester these meetings will be devoted to oral project reports. Attendance is required.

Consultation with Course Staff:

Teams must meet with course staff at least once a week in addition to the regular class time. The computer room B743 will be staffed Monday through Friday 5pm–7pm.

  first class Wednesday Jan 5 (organizational).
• Week 1 (Jan 10 – Jan 14)
  Wednesday: lecture (doing math research)
  Friday: Choice of topic for first project due.
• Week 2 (Jan 17 – Jan 21)
  Monday: MLK Day; no class.
  Wednesday: lecture (computer-assisted math exploration)
• Week 3 (Jan 24 – Jan 28)
  Wednesday: lecture (LaTeX typesetting)
  Friday: Short report on first project due (with data and tentative conclusions).
• Week 4 (Jan 31 – Feb 4)
  Wednesday: lecture (how to write up a project)
  Friday: Draft report on first project due.
• Week 5 (Feb 7 – Feb 11)
  Begin work on second project.
  Wednesday: Group presentation.
  Friday: Draft report on first project returned; choice of topic for second project due.
• Week 6 (Feb 14 – Feb 18)
  Wednesday: Group presentation.
  Friday: Final report on first project due.
• Week 7 (Feb 21 – Feb 25)
  Wednesday: Group presentation.
  Friday: Short report on second project due.
