Michigan Math and Science Scholars
is a program for high school students and teachers who are open to the
challenges of higher mathematics and natural sciences. Michigan Math
and Science Scholars attend summer courses at the University of Michigan,
Ann Arbor, on topics of current mathematical and scientific research.
They are supported throughout the following academic year by self-paced
courses run over the Internet and by mentoring from Michigan math and
science faculty and graduate teaching assistants.
We also offer four online courses to all interested teachers and students. We want these courses to be utilized widely and we are happy to correspond with all interested persons about them. Our hope is that Michigan Math & Science Scholars will foster and support a diverse community founded in enthusiasm for both mathematics and science research and applications. We aspire to encourage and support the mathematicians and scientists of the future and their teachers, on whom the progress of the next generation is based.
Site Features
We hope there is something for everyone with an interest in math and
science at this site. Those interested in participating in the summer
program can find information on past and future programs under "Past
Programs" on the left. We also offer three online courses. Selected
news items and helpful links are also included.
Online Courses
Dale Winter, John Bernstein and Jason Howald are to thank for designing four spectacular online courses. Learn about The Nature of Infinity, Chaos and Fractals, The Large Scale Structure of the Universe and Graph Theory.
