Victoria Booth: Mathematical modeling of neurons

In this talk, I will describe the electrical behavior of neurons including the cellular mechanisms responsible for the generation of neuronal signals called action potentials.

The mathematical model replicating these mechanisms, known as the Hodgkin-Huxley model, will be described and its solutions investigated.  A particular focus will be the prediction made by the model of certain neuronal firing patterns that were subsequently identified experimentally in the squid giant axon.
