Summer Counselors Wanted!!!

THE 2013 COUNSELOR APPLICATION WILL BEGIN IN JANUARY '13. THE DEADLINE WILL BE IN MID-MARCH. PLEASE DO NOT BOOKMARK THIS PAGE AS THE 2013 COUNSELOR APPLICATION WILL BE LISTED ON AN UPDATED WEB PAGE LATER THIS FALL

The Michigan Math and Science Scholars (MMSS) summer program is a program for high school students who are open to the challenges of higher mathematics and natural sciences.
Michigan Math and Science Scholars attend summer courses at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, on topics of current mathematical and scientific research.

Winter/Spring 2012, the MMSS program will be hiring a number of students that will serve as Counselors for the residential portion of the program.

Although there are two sessions offered, you are expected to work June 23 - July 21, 2012.

Session I: June 24, 2012 - July 6, 2012
Session II: July 8, 2012 - July 20, 2012

Residence Hall Counselors supervise the Michigan Math and Science Scholars participants during the non-academic hours of the program.  This is a residential position based in a university residence hall.  You will organize, facilitate, and execute group social activities in the evening hours every weekday and on the weekends.  You will participate in the field trips and chaperone students on group outings (MMSS will pay for your admission fees while doing so!).  Most importantly, you will provide guidance to students, serving as a positive role model for the high school participants - after all, they will be in your shoes in a few years.

The salary of $2000 is provided along with room and board. The position requires weekend and evening participation. You will be expected to work from 4:30 pm until 8:30 am the following day, every weekday you work, and work all 24 hours of each weekend day.  Sleeping is part of your “work schedule”.  Food and lodging are provided.  You will have rotating days off.  You must be at least 18 years old by June 23, 2012 and have been out of high school for at least one year.

While not required, ideal and preferred applicants will have previous relevant experience, understand the Ann Arbor area, be familiar with the University of Michigan, and be able to serve as positive role models for student participants. All applicants will undergo a background check.
