The Michigan Math and Science Scholars (MMSS) summer program is a program for high school students who are open to the challenges of higher mathematics and natural sciences. Michigan Math and Science Scholars attend summer courses at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, on topics of current mathematical and scientific research.
Although there are two sessions offered, you are expected to work June 19 - July 20, 2013.
Session I: June 23, 2013 - July 5, 2013
Session II: July 7, 2013 - July 19, 2013
Residence Hall Counselors supervise the Michigan Math and Science Scholars participants during the non-academic hours of the program. This is a residential position based in a university residence hall. You will organize, facilitate, and execute group social activities in the evening hours every weekday and on the weekends. You will participate in field trips and chaperone students on group outings (MMSS will pay for your admission fees while doing so!). Most importantly, you will provide guidance to students, serving as a positive role model at all times for participants - after all, they will be in your shoes in a few years.
The salary of $2000 is provided along with room and board. The position requires weekend and evening participation. You will be expected to work from 4:30 pm until 8:30 am the following day, every weekday you work, and work all 24 hours of each weekend day. Sleeping is part of your "work schedule." Food and lodging are provided. You will have rotating days off. You must be at least 18 years old by June 19, 2013 and have been out of high school for at least one year.
While not required, ideal and preferred applicants will have previous relevant experience, understand the Ann Arbor area, be familiar with the University of Michigan, and be able to serve as positive role models for student participants. All applicants will undergo a background check.

4A. If you are a currently enrolled student at the University of Michigan, then you must ALSO apply through the Student Employment website for the Camp Associate Position (Opening ID # 25438)
or
4B. If you are NOT a currently enrolled student at the University of Michigan, then you must ALSO apply through the U of M- Human Resources website for the Camp Associate Position (Opening ID # 78937)
Please print out and return your signed application to us by March 15, 2013. Applicants who do not submit BOTH the above downloadable application (item #2 listed above) as well as either the Human Resources application (item #4A) or the Student Employment Application (item #4B) will not be considered for the position. After the deadline of March 15, 2013, the search committee will review all applications and conduct selected interviews. Notifications regarding decisions will be released in early April, 2013 or as soon as possible. Please contact our office with any questions.
