Important Links and Computer Information

While this web site is fairly self-contained, there is, of course, a wealth of information to be found on the web about astronomy and science, in general. For a broader exploration, consider starting with the following links.

As you progress through this web site, you will come across references to computer programs you will need to complete certain exercises, if you want to do more than just have a look around, please read through the following instructions:

  • You will need MS EXCEL ®, or similar. If you do not have EXCEL on your computer, then visit the OpenOffice.org to download a freeware EXCEL-compatible program.

  • The CLEA Project produces many interesting programs for astronomical investigation. All of the CLEA programs referenced in this web site are available on the CLEA Homepage. We recommend that you visit that site and at least install the Hubble Law program on your computer before beginning the exercises.

  • In general, a sky simulation program is a fun and informative thing to have installed on your computer. We did a little searching on the web and found a nice freeware program called HNSKY. We recommend that you download and install it before beginning the exercises.
