``Clams, Climate and Global Change: a Geological Perspective "
with
Kacey Lohmann (Geological Sciences, UM)
Professor Lohmann uses the chemistry employed by little clams millions of years ago to deduce what was happening in the atmosphere at those distant times, even to the point of being able to tell the change in the temperature then.
"The isotopic and elemental chemistry of carbonate , whether formed as the shell of an organism or through abiotic chemical reactions, captures a record of the temperature and chemistry of fluid from which it was formed. As such, carbonate chemistry serves as a important proxy for deciphering Earth history."
Ask Kacey what CEAM stands for!
Kacey's webpage has a record of a past MMSS program he and Bruce Wilkinson gave, a field trip course which traveled all over Michigan, called "Michigan Rocks!".
