Mathematics and the Internet

Everyone is still alive and most are still kicking five days into the course. We talked about how Diffie-Hellman is used to solve the paradox of passing on a secret key before passing on a secret message. In groups, the students encrypted their one-letter secret message and sent it to another group for decryption. Everyone had a lot of fun, and also a lot of laughter as some groups made silly mistakes. Later on, we discussed Reed Solomon Codes and some of its applications. Jason decided that he had tortured the students' ears a little too much and decided to bring them to Stucchi's for ice cream! The class ended with Jason playing NIM with some of the students. It's sad to say goodbye, but Jason will be leaving this Sunday. Bye Jason, we will all miss you!
