Mathematics and the Internet
7/23/08
It's Day #8, and many of us are exhausted. But the day went by rather smoothly and the students are still keen at participating and carrying out activities. We started off with a lecture on Lempel-Ziv compression, followed by an exercise on the scheme. Then, we went into models of auctions, and we even had a classic auction and an internet auction (using imaginary money) in class! Ari won a space blanket while Carolyn won the Einstein Mug. Mark then talked about a particular frisbee case which led to Markov Chains. The day ended with Mark giving out three Markov Chains problems and the students working on one problem of their choice.
