My research is directed towards questions in harmonic analysis for reductive p-adic groups. In particular, recently I have been interested in stability questions. My work uses a great deal of Bruhat-Tits theory, and, to this end, I also study the structure of reductive groups over nonarchimedean local fields.

Carnegie Foundation names Stephen DeBacker Professor of the Year for the State of Michigan 2012
Stephen DeBacker has been named the 2012 Professor of the Year for the State of Michigan by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. He is one of 30 professors across the nation who were honored.Stephen DeBacker has been named an Arthur F. Thurnau Professor. 2011
