The Institute for Mathematics and its Applications (IMA) in
Minneapolis was founded in 1982 with funding from the National
Science Foundation and primary mission of increasing the impact of
mathematics by fostering research of a truly interdisciplinary
nature, establishing links between mathematics of the highest
caliber and important scientific and technological problems from
other disciplines and industry. Through its membership in the IMA,
faculty and graduate students from the University of Michigan have
enhanced opportunities to benefit from the IMA and to provide input
into its programming. In this informal session IMA director Doug
Arnold will give an overview of the tremendous variety of upcoming
programs and opportunities, in order to promote participation and
gather input.
