Large Scale Nonlinear Finite Element Solver Algorithm of Optimal Speed

Peter Shi

Oakland University

Abstract

The speaker will present a new algorithm of optimal or nearly optimal speed that can solve all nonlinear finite element models whose principle part is Lipschitz continuous and strongly monotone in a Sobolev space. The algorithm will have broad applications in solid and fluid mechanics, material sciences, biology, and other areas where high speed simulation is critically demanded. While a rigorous justification of the algorithm requires sophisticated mathematics, the talk will make it accessible to the general audience.
