Mathematics Colloquium EVENT DETAIL Date:  Wednesday, October 31, 2007 Title:  The Second Law of Probability Abstract:  The talk will explain how a geometric principle of Minkowski gave rise to a variational formula for information theoretic entropy which in turn led to the solution of an old problem: whether there is an analogue of the second law of thermodynamics for the central limit theorem.
