Mathematics Colloquium EVENT DETAIL Date:  Tuesday, December 01, 2009 Title:  Hidden convex structures for nonlinear PDE Abstract:  In this expository lecture I will discuss a selection of nonlinear PDE, for each of which convex analysis is applicable, but in ways that are far from obvious. I will describe from this viewpoint simple evolving sandpile models, optimal mass transfer problems, and kinetic formulations for conservation laws and Hamilton-Jacobi equations.
