Title: Geometrical singularities and singular geometries: some problems and prospects
Abstract: The crumpling of paper, the peeling and healing of a thin sheet from a substrate, and the furrowing of a soft surface are all problems that involve singular deformations and geometrical singularities. I will summarize why these problems are of interest, what we understand about them, what the mathematical challenges thrown up by these systems are, and what a synthesis might aim for.
