Title: On the non-existence of Kervaire Invariant One Manifolds
Abstract: In this talk, I will discuss joint work with Hopkins and
Ravenel in which we show the non-existence of Kervaire invariant one
manifolds in all but 6 dimensions. This answers several classical
questions ranging from the number of smooth structures on spheres to the
survival of elements in the Adams spectral sequence. Our solution builds
on the homotopy theoretic formulation of the problem and uses
equivariant homotopy theory to solve it.
