Title: Two faces of planar algebras
Abstract: Planar algebras are vector spaces with lots of operations indexed by planar diagrams that occur in lots of areas of mathematics and physics. In particular with a couple of extra axioms it is known by a theorem of Popa that they are intimately related in two ways to von Neumann algebras. I will give a new "graded algebra" look at these two ways, inspired by work of Guionnet and Shlyakhtenko on random matrices. (They are my coauthors in the current work.)
