Polyhedral complexes for tropical geometry

I will sketch some basic definitions for abstract polyhedral complexes with connections to tropical geometry and discuss the relationship of these constructions to the Gathmann-Markwig proofs of "tropical WDVV" and the Kontsevich and Caporaso-Harris formulas for counting curves in the plane.
