Promotion and Evacuation

Promotion and evacuation are two operations based off of jeu de taquin which give automorphisms on the set of linear extensions of a partially ordered set, and they happen to show up in some interesting places. To start, I’ll derive some of the classical relations between the two operations. Then I’ll move on to a couple different applications where promotion and evacuation come into play, including some recent results and conjectures related to the cyclic sieving phenomenon.
