Khovanov Cohomology of Knots

I will give a brief introduction to polynomial invariants of knots, and define the Jones polynomial. I will then describe the construction, due to M. Khovanov, of a (graded) cohomology theory whose (graded) Euler characteristic gives the Jones polynomial. The explanation will vaguely follow the expository paper of D. Bar-Natan.
