Perverse Sheaves and Intersection (Co)homology
A perverse sheaf is not a deviant bundle of grain, but intersection homology does deal with cycles which deviate from usual homology in a special way. I will try to motivate the construction of these objects, and show how the study of singular spaces leads one to consider them. There will be at least one picture involving colored chalk.
