String theory provides an innovative point of view on many classical areas of mathematics. In this talk we look at elementary algebro-geometric objects (elliptic curves and projective spaces) as examples of how physical reasoning can lead naturally to non-trivial statements about enumerative geometry, triangulated categories, and much more.
