Zach Teitler,
Knots near the singular points of plane algebraic curves
I'm going to talk about topology of a plane curve (over C) near a
singular
point. Intersecting with a small (metric) ball around the singular point
gives a knot or link in S^3. Each branch gives a component of the link.
The function defining the curve gives a fibration on S^3 minus this knot
or link. The knot or link always turns out to be an "iterated torus
knot".
