Algebraic Geometry Date:  Wednesday, February 06, 2013 Location:  3088 East Hall (4:00 PM to 6:00 PM) Title:  Semiample Bertini theorems over finite fields Abstract:   For a smooth projective variety over a finite field, Poonen’s Bertini Theorem computes the probability that a high degree hypersurface section of that variety will be smooth.
