Title: Two finiteness results in combinatorial commutative algebra
Abstract: I will present two recent results: the first (joint with Sam) is a proof of Stembridge's conjecture on stability of Kronecker coefficients; the second (joint with Nagpal and Sam) establishes that certain twisted commutative algebras are noetherian. The two results are similar in that both can be presented as problems about the symmetric group, but the solutions use Schur--Weyl duality to move to the world of commutative algebra and apply results from algebraic geometry.
