Title:  Chromatic quasisymmetric functions

Abstract:   In joint work with John Shareshian, we defined a refinement of Stanley's chromatic symmetric function of a graph. The refinement is a quasisymmetric function, and in fact is symmetric for a certain class of graphs. I will discuss our conjecture relating the chromatic quasisymmetric functions for this class to Hessenberg varieties, and its connection to the long standing e-positivity conjecture of Stanley and Stembridge. I will also present some results supporting our conjecture.
