Student Algebraic Geometry

Date:  Friday, October 20, 2017
Location:  3096 East Hall (3:10 PM to 4:00 PM)

Title:  Examples of blowing up in algebraic geometry

Abstract:   Blowing up is the most fundamental transformation in birational geometry. In this talk I will give a lot of explicit examples and show how to use the blow-up construction to resolve singularities and rational maps. If time permits, I’ll explain its application in the study of moduli spaces.
