Title: Galois Theory as Geometry
Abstract: In this talk we'll take a stroll through classical algebraic number theory donning our geometry goggles. From this perspective we'll revisit the fundamental notions of extensions of number fields, Galois groups, ramification, and p-adics. Our ambitious objective for the hour will be to connect these notions with holomorphic maps of algebraic curves, deck transformations, critical points, and Taylor series in a comprehensible way.
