Title: Galois Theory as Geometry
Abstract: In this talk we'll take a stroll through classical algebraic number theory donning our geometry goggles. From this perspective we'll revisit the fundamental notions of extensions of number fields, Galois groups, ramification, and padics. Our ambitious objective for the hour will be to connect these notions with holomorphic maps of algebraic curves, deck transformations, critical points, and Taylor series in a comprehensible way.
