Student Representation Theory

Date:  Friday, October 06, 2017
Location:  1866 East Hall (3:00 PM to 4:00 PM)

Title:  The crystal perspective on Schur-Weyl duality

Abstract:   Crystals are a combinatorial model for representations of semisimple Lie groups. I will discuss crystals for GL_n representations and the combinatorial avatar of Schur-Weyl duality (or more accurately, of the decomposition of the dth tensor power of \bbC^n into GL_n irreducibles). I will not assume any background in combinatorics.
