Title:  Recruitment Symposium: The Drinfeld Curve

Abstract:   The Drinfeld curve xy^q - yx^q = 1 has number theoretic origins but has had an enormous impact on representation theory. As such, it is an illustrative example of how ideas in representation theory, number theory, and algebraic geometry interact. In this talk, I will describe the representations of SL2(Fq) and discuss the central role of the Drinfeld curve in this story.
