Combinatorics Date:  Friday, November 11, 2011 Location:  3866 East Hall (4:10 PM to 5:00 PM) Title:  The shape of a random affine Weyl group element, and random core partitions Abstract:   I will discuss the "shape" of a random element of an affine Weyl group, where an element is randomly generated by (reduced) multiplication by simple generators. This is equivalent to looking at a random walk in the affine Coxeter arrangement that is conditioned to never cross a hyperplane twice.
