2005 Career Conference Participant Profiles

 

Terry Belton ‘83 is a Managing Director for JP Morgan, heading the US Fixed Income Strategy and Global Derivative Strategy.  This position is in charge of quantitative research in the fixed income markets in support of the firms’ proprietary trading and client trading.

 

Lucia Cooper ’65 is a Senior Principal Consultant for Hyperion Solutions, a global leader in enterprise software and services for Business Performance Management.  Business Performance Management software enables organizations to translate strategies into plans, monitor execution, and provide insight to improve financial and operational performance.  

 

Kimberly Hartzfeld ’93 is a Manager for Accenture, a global firm offering business management and information technology services to all types of industries worldwide.

 

Kalynn Haubert ’97 is an Assistant Actuary, Actuarial Pricing for the Auto Club Group (AAA), an insurance company providing personal lines products.  AAA is also a member services company offering travel, emergency road services and financial planning. 

 

Jacob Lessem ‘03 is a high school Math and Physics Teacher at Zuni High School in New Mexico working for Teach for America.  Teach for America is a public service non profit organization building the movement to address the achievement gap that exists between children growing up in low income and high income areas.

 

Dick McLaughlin ’62 is a retired Technical Supervisor/Software Engineer for Bell Laboratories, the research and development arm of Lucent Technologies, which produces switching and transmission equipment for the telecommunication industry worldwide.

 

Robert Nelson ‘75 is President of Airflow Sciences Corp., which uses a combination of simulation and testing to solve industrial fluid flow problems.  Examples of projects include reduction of power plant pollution, improvement in car performance, and food safety through the process of production.   

 

Sandra Ross ’92 is an Assistant Vice President, Actuarial Pricing for the Auto Club Group (AAA), an insurance company providing personal lines products.  AAA is also a member services company offering travel, emergency road services and financial planning. 

 

Liz Schnaar ‘03 is an associate in Towers Perrin’s Health and Welfare practice, providing healthcare strategy and plan management services to a variety of companies, many of whom are ranked in the Fortune 500. Her work includes annual renewal projects, vendor procurements and negotiations, calculation of IBNR reserves, and contribution/flex plan pricing.

 

Benjamin Singer ‘93 is a 4th year fellow in the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP), which means he has completed 2 years for medical school and is now working on his PhD.  His work involves using optical imaging techniques to record activity in the brains of experimental animals or in cell cultures, and then using mathematical models based on the data suggest hypotheses and experiments.

 

Chris Smith ’98 is an actuarial associate in the Detroit office of Towers Perrin and has seven years of consulting experience.  His responsibilities include preparing cost estimates and actuarial valuations of retirement plans and managing preparation of special retirement benefits projects such as benefit strategy and plan design, executive benefits, regulatory compliance and nondiscrimination testing. 

 

Peggy Smith is an actuarial associate in the Detroit office of Towers Perrin and has six years of consulting experience.  Her responsibilities include assisting clients with issues regarding the design, funding and administration of pension and postretirement welfare plan benefits. She also manages annual client projects, such as the actuarial valuations for both defined benefit and retiree welfare plans, as well as special projects, including the design of retirement incentive programs and union negotiations.

 

Lan Wang ’94 is a Financial Analyst for Ford Motor Company, who handles the pension liability management for non-North American pension plans.  Ford Motor Company is a global company with annual sales of $164 billion including worldwide vehicle sales of $6.7 million units through a network of 20,000 dealers.  Manufacturing, vehicle assembly, or sales operations in more than 30 countries and employs a diverse global team of 350,000 employees.
