In 1999 I got in touch with Professor Gian Pietro Pirola, from Universita' degli Studi di Pavia and with him I wrote my thesis, Algebraic Curves defined over the Algebraic Closure of the Rational Numbers , investigating Grothendieck's theory of Dessins D'Enfants and a preprint work by Vladimir Voevodsky proposing to use the combinatorial data of the dessins to construct a sequence of abelian varieties approximating the Jacobian of the algebraic curve.
I defended my thesis and graduaded with 110/110 and Laude on March 3rd, 2000.
Throughout the Spring of 2000 I kept working with a few professors of University of Pavia, attending seminars and graduate courses in Algebraic and Arithmetic Geometry.
I received my PhD in Spring 2005 at the University of Utah, working under the guidance of Professor Aaron Bertram. I am interested in Gromov-Witten Theory and, more in particular, in the application of Topological Quantum Field Theories to this area, after the work of Jim Bryan and Rahul Pandharipande. Since they say one picture is better than 1000 words, I hope you enjoy the following illustration!
