I work in algebraic geometry, in which one uses geometric methods to
study systems of polynomial equations in several variables. In recent
years, my research has focused on applying ideas and techniques from
higher-dimensional geometry to a number of concrete algebraic and
geometric problems.
My monograph on
Positivity in Algebraic Geometry
is now out. It has appeared
as volumes 48 and 49 in the Springer
Ergebnisse series, and also in a paperback
edition. Chapters 1 and 6 are available for (free) download from
